Not sure but I won't be there anyways thanks to way too much goddamn hw and stuff. Might be on way late, like 2am late though.

How much is Xbox live nowadays? Monthly I mean.

Like $10 per but MS is running a deal where a full year's only $40.

Ikr, but I have 4 exams in 4 days starting this Monday and a fuckton of hw to do otherwise. I'll make the race but that's about it.

Hmm, I just remembered, wasnt there like a free month of live recently? Or something like that?

I don't remember that

That's pretty good actually.

Definitely, especially since you get free games with Gold (iirc this month's games are Tomb Raider and Bioshock Infinite, both great titles). If you're considering getting Gold to race with us it might be worth it; after these two series end in June we've got another few coming up that should keep us racing well into December.

I really miss Fourza. I still have it, along with many cars and much moneys in the game, but sadly I not haz moneys for the live of the box. Maybe I can swing it next month, because I miss this and battlefield 3

Yeah, I wouldn't mind playing with some of the guys from oppo. I just need to get money for the live....ugh. Parenthood makes you poor.
What time of day, and what days do you guys tend to play on? How long are the races usually?
![]() 02/27/2015 at 16:41 |

Races are at ~4PM EST on Saturdays and last around 30-45 minutes, and there's normally a practice session the night before around 8 or 9pm with a few random lobbies throughout the week leading up the race.

Microsoft's running a deal right now where a year of Live's only $40. Not sure how long it'll last but it'd be a good value since we have plans to keep racing all the way into December.

Are the races particularly difficult? I'm still getting use to forza 4, I'm a beginner. :)

Sorry for the long response but just giving as much info as I can:
Don't know how good you are at racing games in general but these series are designed to be all-inclusive and accommodating regardless of skill level (all assists are allowed and you build your car to a lap time, not a PI, so in theory the slower dudes should be right there with the rest of the pack, some of whom dial their cars back to be fair to the rest of the field) but on the other side of that double-edged sword the rules make racing very competitive: for example, I hold a few R3 top-1000 lap times and still have only won two of five races, while another guy who's even faster than I am only has two podiums and finished outside the top 5 the other three times.
Only problems you really have would be overall lap time consistency and online racing etiquette. We do all we can to ensure parity and decrease performance deltas but even with all the rules some people are just better drivers and make fewer mistakes than others, which in turn equals more consistent lap times and thus higher finishing positions. The way we look at it is that we give everyone an equal opportunity to win the race, but it's entirely up to the driver to capitalize on that.
Also, the field normally has a double-digit number of cars in it and since they're so close in performance you kind of need to know how to drive in traffic, which is something we put an emphasis on. I mean, incidental bumps and scrapes happen all the time, but I'm talking like taking people off the racing line or knocking them off track. That kind of stuff we don't allow (even if it's unintentional) so the learning curve might be a bit steep in the beginning. Shame you don't have Live yet, our practices would be a great way to get used to online racing.
Speaking of which, if you have time and want to gauge your performance you can build an A-class car to these specs and hot-lap Road Atlanta, our track this week; target time is 1:34 and even though the post says there's a 550PI limit there really isn't one, just keep upgrading until you hit that time irrespective of what your PI ends up being. In theory the 1:34 should be a time you physically can't go any faster than so use replay as much as you can and dial back your car if you start lapping faster.
We do take these races pretty seriously but the entire point of the series is just to have fun and go racing with some Opponauts so don't be intimidated or anything by all the rules, they're failsafes to ensure it remains as much enjoyable as possible as far as overall competitiveness goes. We're always looking for more people to join and we'd love to have you race with us if you can.

It's still $10 a month, I think.

It's 1 year for 39.99 through Feb 28.

Holy cow, that is a lot, lol. Hmm, is it possible to view a couple of matches first? It would be interesting to watch for proper etiquette and such.
Oh yeah, it looks like I may get live. I'm in debate/bartering with my wife ever since this post.

If you treat it like racing in real life and avoid as much contact as you can while going as fast as you can you should be totally fine. Reading back, my previous reply sounds so serious lol, but yeah, just use common sense and don't get overambitious. We just don't want people divebombing corners or ping-ponging off other cars like they tend to do in public lobbies.

Ha, this will sound weird but I've never seen a race on tv, nascar or f1. But what you say about common sense does make sense though. It's a 'treat your neighbor how you want to be treated' type of situation.
Also, what is divebombing corners? Is that where you go across the grass? And ping-ponging off other cars is where you use the physics of the game to run into another car to force your car to make a sharper turn at high speeds, right? I might or might not of did this playing Horizons, :). The AI was sometimes merciless, lol.
If and when I get live, don't worry, I won't do that stuff. I noticed that there is a lot more control in the Fourza game and driving mechanics. So I've been getting myself to play nicer with the AI, :).
And I'm glad you sent that big post. I'll keep reading it over, because it's a high-end approach to what's happening in the race, which is important to know.
What kind of difficulties do you can turn on/off during the match? Or what is the norm? I'm looking to challenge myself.

It's a 'treat your neighbor how you want to be treated' type of situation.
That's a great way to think about it. And I mean divebombing/ping-ponging as in like not really braking for corners and bouncing off other people's cars to turn, the Horizon kind of stuff. It never really happens in our lobbies and it's never intentional if it does, just like people not paying attention sometimes.
As far as assists/difficulties go a lot of people turn traction control and ABS off and use clutchless manual shifting but you can really do whatever, if anything it'd be better to start using all the assists and then gradually take some away once you get used to driving in the game.
![]() 02/28/2015 at 19:29 |

I currently have manual w/ clutch on. I feel like I have better control of the car, plus I feel 10x cooler that way. I'm gradually turning the others off.
So what tier of car (a,b,c,d....) do you guys tend to use? Or...err, the points? Was it the 550 you mentioned earlier?
![]() 02/28/2015 at 20:14 |
|
Wow, do you have a wheel? Either way that's really impressive. Right now we have two series, one B450 and the other A550 (the former with old-school touring cars [Ford Escort, Alfa GTA, etc] and the latter with Trans-Am muscle cars [Camaro, Mustang, Challenger, whatever]. Those numbers are just the initial build spec PI for the cars, if you need to add or subtract PI to meet the weekly target lap time that's fine (for example, in our 'A550' race today we had people who were running A530 all the way up to 590some but most everyone was within a second of each other lap time-wise). They're basically spec series with balance-of-performance adjustments thrown in so that racing is as close as possible.
![]() 02/28/2015 at 20:49 |

Haha, thanks! I have no wheel though, I use the controller. I adapted to learn how to use manual w/ clutch early on in the Horizon game, which I just beat last Sunday. I did noticed that pressing the clutch and the brake isn't easy with one finger.
I tend to brake before a corner, turn, clutch in, downshift (if applicable), clutch out, accelerate. I'm not sure if that's how it's suppose to be down, but it tends to work for me. It allows me to not lose momentum too much.
Touring cars, eh? *sigh, and showing lack of car knowledge* what defines touring car? It's cuz I prefer smaller, rwd cars (like the trueno, I love that car), but I'm not sure if those are touring cars.
![]() 02/28/2015 at 23:02 |

Touring cars are just like small, heavily-modified coupes or sedans (see a full list of allowed cars and required modifications here ). You'd really like the B450 series then, the cars are a lot of fun because of how light they are and they don't really have enough power to get you into trouble. It's the old 'slow car fast' kind of thing. Only problem is a lot of them are very rollover-prone so you kind of have to drive carefully around curbs and stuff.
